Hello all.
I'm looking at an Absolute 41 from 2007, looks an awful lot of boat for the money!
I've not heard of Absolute and would like to know if it's a good quality or there are any pitfalls I need to look out for.
Engines are a known quantity as it's Volvo D6's - It's mainly the make and quality of I'm interested in researching.
The lack of UK support is not really an issue as the boat will be used in Spain.

The Absolute 41 is a fantastic boat, as you'll find out in the Absolute threads. The quality is superb, the hull is superb, the style is beautiful, the interior is beautiful, the full-width master cabin is superb, and the outdrives give it great handling - it handles like a big speedboat - huge fun to drive. And yes it's a lot of boat for the money.

I would argue one of the best 40 footers ever made full stop, & living just down the road from Essex Boatyards I have seen a few. I would also add you could do a lot worse than to buy from Essex, again check the forum feedback.

I know the boat, it is good. They offer something different to what at the time is the norm. The dealer is still around, down at Universal Marina.....

Absolute gel coat is very prone to fading especially in the med.
The Volvo DPH steering ram seals will fail and need to be replaced at least every 2 years.
Everything else ok.

True, but when that happens it only affects the navy blue haunches and the navy blue panel on the garage door and it's very easy to fix on the 41 and 45 because the haunches are separate panels to the rest of the hull so can very easily be sprayed. I did this on my 45 and they look better than new (now they're shinny all the time and they'll last years) and the cost was around 600 euros. For another few hundred euros more I also had the navy blue garage door panel sprayed white to match the other white panels, like the new Absolutes.

I did also have to replace the Volvo steering ram seals :)

Also on the 45 (don't know if the 41 is identical here) the anchor can sometimes fail to self-launch from its cradle and needs someone to go to the bow and nudge it. This happens with a Bruce because the roller assembly angle is too shallow - so changing to a Delta or Rocna is advisable.

Got any pics of the white garage, I would be interested if you have?:)

I would also be interested in seeing pictures for reference

Thanks to one and all
In general it seems a thumbs up for Absolute - all it takes now is a satisfactory sea trial - always bearing in mind the good old Volvo Steering Rams

Yup, here it is. I also fitted a flag staff (made for a searay 50) into the port haunch just above the cleat so it flies a proper 1.5yd ensign (since Absolutes don't have flag staffs).

During the sea trial, up on the plane, tell any passengers to hang on and then spin the wheel right over (not too quick!). Not to check anything, just to feel how a 40+footer Absolute can lean right over and take a corner at speed like a speedboat, you'll have a grin on your face guaranteed :) It's a brilliant boat, good luck with it.
