Very grateful if anybody has useful info to offer!

A bit of a long shot but very keen to secure 3 x visitor berths for one night (Sunday 25th July), in Plymouth (any marina). One 40 footer, one 34 footer and one 32 footer. Happy to raft. We’re a three family, three boat flotilla en route to the CI’s with a one night stop over in the city. We’d like a pontoon berth if possible as our crew will consist of kids and a couple of young dogs who could do with stretching their legs before setting off across the channel.

Under normal circumstances this would probably have been a non-issue but having learnt of one boat being turned away from every marina in the city last weekend, I decided it might be worth a ring-around. Nobody taking reservations and most fairly pessimistic on our chances.

Just thought I’d throw it out there before the hooks go down at Cawsand...

Yes, they are happy with the dogs as long as we're traveling directly from the mainland. They have understandably strict Covid protocols mind; double vaccinated adults only (with at least 14 days since second), children under 11 are fine but the 12-18 year olds will have to test on arrival and stay on the boat until results are back from the lab, approximately 24 hours at the time of writing.

I’d have a word with Sutton Harbour Marina, there seems to be a few almost permanently empty berths there at the moment. Also ask them about availability at King Point, part of the same group.

Or 10 days, depending on result. Presumably if they test positive, then you're all in Quarantine?

I managed to get a berth in Mayflower marina to pick up crew and drop them off almost two weeks later, late June pick up early July drop off. It was a bit hit and miss as they wouldn’t commit to having availability until the day of arrival as it depended on others vacating when they said they will and not staying on. They are very helpful and if they can get you in they will.

Thanks Pete, Mayflower have definitely been the most helpful. They have our ‘names down’ but have still requested a call on the day. Not really a reservation, more of a “if we can help on the day then we will”

There are some visitor buoys on the Cattewater near the entrance that are often free. I think RWYC might administer them.

I’ve been on those buoys. Absolutely fine and good value BUT there was no way to get ashore in the dinghy with the dog, other than going into QAB who wanted to charge for a short stay… This was a number of years ago, I mentioned it to RWYC at the time and I wold hope that things have changed but you might want to check up

As an alternative starting point for the CIs, have you considered Salcombe? It’s busy this weekend - 5 boats to a buoy - but there is still space on the visitors pontoon in The Bag and the water taxi can ferry you ashore. You might need to use a tender to take the dogs for their morning walk but you are 17 miles closer to Guernsey than you would be in Plymouth so can afford to start later for the same arrival time.

QAB who wanted to charge for a short stay…
QAB would charge you to breath if they could!

I wanted to stay an extra hour after Allspars complete my new standing rigging and they said there would be a charge! They lost a potential customer that day as I was getting prices for next year's berthing at the time.
