Any ideas on thia boat

My son and his mate have been given this old boat currently in the water in a canal. I am curious if anyone knows the make of the boat. I am hoing to have a look at it yomorrow, I believe it has taken on some water.

Assuming that registration number in the side is 65162 then an online search says:- "Amy" Built by Headline - Length : 7.01 metres ( 23 feet ) - Beam : 2.08 metres ( 6 feet 10 inches ) - Draft : 0.45 metres ( 1 foot 6 inches ). Fibre Glass hull N/A power of 10 HP. Registered with Canal & River Trust number 65162 as a Powered Motor Boat. ( Last updated on Wednesday 22nd May 2013 )

Make sure it does not come with a debt attached and make sure it has a valid, in date, Boat Safety Scheme certificate for use on inland waterways otherwise it will cost you lots of money.

It was my sons friends grandad who shared the boat with another guy who has said they can have the boat. I think I need to check this out as I have a feeling they might end up being stuck with something that could be a problem. Boats on canals is something I am not familiar with.

I pumped out over a 100 litres today. I think if the engine 15hp honda works it might be ok. I am sure my son and his girlfriend will enjoybit in the summer. What can go wrong in a canal, I would not trust them out at sea. Not so sure about the plastic head lining near the log burner chimney.

You do know canal boats need a safety cert also a mooring which is more expensive than Rhyl marina.

Fiberglass, I believe the mooring has been paid upto date. The hull looks solid and just needs some topcoat. No gas installed or complicated electronics. Honda 15hp has probably not been running for over 3 years.

Yes, he can take the mooring over. It is in Nantwich in the Shropshire Union canal.

I have changed my mind , the engine will poberbly run you can take it off and work on at home . Stop water coming in then your son can buy a mattress , and he and girlfriend can spend time doing it UP !!!!!
