Having seen that more closely I'd get rid of it, same for the staging. It looks too home made.
I didn't spend a lot of thought on it really, but I wonder what the purpose of this construction behind my sprayhood is. It's not really a rigging cage it's below hip level, besides the fact that everything is led aft anyway.
I mean, it gives a little something to hold onto, admittedly, but not sure if the construction is really just some sort of hand rail? Maybe something for solar panels?
Previous owner, who build that, is not really in touch any more. Think he just can't be bothered any more haha.
Sorry for my ignorance, we're all still learning about boats, aren't we?

Well, when I first saw the boat I was asking more important questions and focused on important things like the anchor, rigging, the sails and so on. I wish I had asked to find out what this was supposed to be.It’s obviously homemade.....so we don’t know if it fulfilled it’s design function (which is unknown) ....or was so badly designed or executed that it failed to its job....and therefore impossible to guess.
Just out of interest (and apologies if you’ve already answered) but why didn’t you ask when you bought the boat ?
Fair.Having seen that more closely I'd get rid of it, same for the staging. It looks too home made.
Haha. I was thinking that, just wanted to make sure it's not something I need later. I don't remember what it was exactly, but what I do remember from my old boat, is that I threw something out, thinking it's just rubbish and it turned out later that it was indeed quite useful, I just didn't know what for yet.It looks ideal for unbolting and throwing overboard.
Haha no the owners swears blind that it was in Dublin around that time. Was your yacht anywhere near a gas pipeline in the Baltic, late September 2022 perchance?
Probably just the bending processI find it interesting that most of the frame looks to have fairly even, progressive curves, but the top section of the front appears to be rather threepenny-bit shaped. I wonder whether that might be a clue as to its purpose, or the result of deformation from something heavy being hung from or placed on top of it.
It's very symmetrical so I, too, think it's very deliberate.Probably just the bending process
I think that the builder would have preferred an even curve…but settled for a series of bends. It's very symmetrical so I, too, think it's very deliberate.

Obviously I am only speculating…the curved tube could have been a found object…which he tried to mimic with the second tubeIt can and should be done vastly better than that, unless its supposed to have angles or been deformed subsequently.
The rest of it looks quite smoothly curved.

There's no cause for filth like that on the forume.g. a dwarf with five carrots and a hacksaw.
And a week later, you'll discover why you desperately need it...As for the OP, it's perfectly obvious: it's a thing to do a thing you don't do.
The solution is equally obvious, and a well-trodden path: put it in the shed for a few years, rediscover it, try to remember what you thought it might be, try to give it away for a year, then eventually skip it.
