Selva outboards? There is one for sale locally at a good price, it's lived it's life as a back up engine on a Motor Boat, so running hours are low, which I know is not necessarily always a bonus point.
I know Mariner are the working brother of Mercury, who are Selva? Any first hand knowledge would be appreciated.

Selva made a lot of parts for Yamaha, it is rumoured that the bigger Selvas are rebadged Yamaha (4 strokes) no experience of using Selva engines, always used Honda 4 strokes.

I would like to know too.

Yamaha took them over and sell them in Europe under the Selva brand.

They market a 8hp 4T Black Bass which weighs the same weight (27kg) as a Mercury/mariner / Yamaha 6hp but I would like to see an independent review .

Assuming that Selva sell at a lower price point than the yamaha equivalent.
I'd asking how and what have cut or downgraded, to reduce the price, and does that make a difference?
Commercially it doesn't make sense to introduce a direct competitor to your headline product, at a lower price, unless you are down grading in someway to attract a different segment of the market.
The difference need not be mechanic, it could be cosmetic, guarante, after sales service, or even the snobbery around brand recognition.
