Is there anyone game for helping an intrepid but inexperienceed female skipper? Its not going to be a journey of epic proportions just yet but if someone could find the time to help by crewing on my small craft to instruct me then I would be eternally greatful. Please let me know.

It might help if you could fill in a few details about yourself (well the boat really), i.e. location most importantly.

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

Hi
I can probably help with more information. The lady has bought a Dockrell 22 in Chichester; she has no sailing experience, but needs to get the boat to Ipswich. It is fin keel with a 7hp Vire inboard. Road transport is too expensive as is a delivery crew if she could find one that would stop laughing.

Therefore she is looking for any help and advice she can get.

She is currently living onboard and has a bus ride to the local Internet café so there will inevitably be a delay in replies.

I think that is going to be rather a passage, especially for a novice. However, I do wish her well.

I expect road transport is cheaper than delivery crew???? afterall, by sea that is going to take some time and planning, but its not too far by road.

Let me know if you/she want a couple of transport contacts - one very reasonable indeed (£350 from Southampton to Falmouth).

Hello Neptune's Fury

Welcome to the world of sailing and to this YBW forum.

I would be very willing to assist with this passage and also in teaching you the rudiments of sailing. I was a County Scout Sailing Instructor (Cheshunt, Hertfordshire), for my sins, in the 70's

I know this particular piece of coastline very well indeed as I lived for many years in Broadstairs and later in Folkestone. I have also worked on a small trawler out of a Kent port and also worked for Trinity House both out of Dover Harbour (Pilot Service) and also out of Harwich Harbour (Lights and buoys).

I also hold the Royal Navy certificate for coastal and off-shore sailing AFO & QR 2099/63.

Contact me my phone or e-mail

Gart, if you can forward this message by phone I would be very grateful

Best regards David Wheatley [Surrey]

Yacht delivered successfully to Ipswich on the 12 July.

Chichester Bar was very rough with a very lumpy sea and rolling breakers and the weather was bad during the early part of the passage (Selsey to Dover) and we had to ride out high winds for three days in Shoreham and a night in Dover due to a severe electric storm and more high winds. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Rest of journey was just plain sailing. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

A fun trip /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
