Not being a genius with engines I have been a member of Seastart for the last 4 or 5 years.
Never needed their services happily but before I renew this time I wondered whether their (agency) cover west of Portland Bill as as good as the Solent/Chichester/Poole harbour, where all their own ribs are located?

I caught a large (8m x 6m) off cut of fishing net around the prop whilst motoring bang in the middle of Lyme Bay. I waited for an afternoon breeze, sailed in to Brixham having advised SeaStart of the predicament whilst en route. Thereafter SeaStart were excellent. They arranged a diver who arrived at Brixham before I did. Net was removed very sharpish. Shaft, prop, engine mounts and gearbox all checked for damage. We decided to stay overnight at Brixham but the marina fees were paid by the SeaStart insurance policy as our visit there had been caused by the incident. First class service provided by the Plymouth based SeaStart agent. Highly recommended.

That encouraging. Actually they are good value compared to a comparable Plymouth based service.

I was about to say that I know two of the guys who respond for Sea Start. They are amazing people and look after my safety boat brilliantly. Then I saw your post and realised that it would have been the chap I know who came to your boat, as they cover the coast around here from Brixham. He’s also an ex-RN diver and engineer, so you were in the very best hands.

I've needed them twice, the first time was for a diesel bug issue and they towed me up to the mooring, the chap couldn't have been more helpful. The second time was when the engine on my new (to me) boat would not start during Summer Camp and they did a phone diagnosis whilst on the way to me, again the chap was super helpful and didn't take the mickey at all when I realised that the Scouts had left the engine stop handle out...

I hope I never have to use them again, but if I do, I'm confident that the issues will be resolved with their help.

Used them twice this season. First time was when I got a rope round my prop. Was not a member. Paid the non-member call out. Needed Matt to go into he water and dive down.

Following month had a problem with my Beta engine. If the cam stops in the wrong place the manual fuel pump doesn’t work. Post fuel / water filter change - not able to get the engine started. Telephone triage and lots of good advice.

Not been a member prior to this year. However, I will renew next year.
