Antigua

Thanks for posting. It brought back memories of a holiday there in the early 80s; we toured the island and loved English Harbour.

Shame they have the most abnoxious officals in the whole of the eastern carribbean.

Might be a while since you have been then? I didnt ever have a problem in Jolly Harbour anyway, but the people in the new(ish) place in the dockyard for in and out clearance are great especially with the dawn of the electronic age!

Nice welcome at the airport too. :encouragement:

+1.
Clearing into English Harbour in 2009 the snooty lady immigration officer was overwriting my details on the declaration form with a black-ink, fine-tip pen, when I apologised for my faded ballpoint ink; saying that she had a much better pen. "It's not that I have a better pen", she tartly replied, "I have better handwriting". Ouch!

I have. Yet another place that if you go in with a smile you get nice service. Dunno why people make their own lives so difficult.....

Carriacou was fine, same Antigua.

Be nice, be cheerful, only answer when spoken to and actually answer the question.
And try not to go in after a grumpy complaining yachtie..

Sometimes good ploy to check it they won the cricket/football the day before and sneak that in, always goes down well

Yup. Being a footie and cricket fan I can always get a nice conversation going! Have sat and watched footie with the customs and Immigration lads in Rodney Bay and Canouan. The somewhat notorious chap at the time in Trini spent a while chatting about Dwight Yorke before a World Cup.

Always recommend going in clean and tidy, fresh clothes. Its simple respect. Whining yachties let the side down badly!

These customs /excise/immigration jobs help keep these little islands going. Union Island (@ the airport) was about the slowest we met for clearing in/out. However, being polite and prepared helps a lot. patience is a virtue....

If you want really difficult' customs and immigration folk situated in difficult to access offices try checking in at West Palm Beach in Florida.

Then try to get a cruising permit with a full explanation of the rules about reporting movements.

YUP The USA takes the biscuit as far as I am concerned.
