Antifreeze in raw water system

Is it possible to do this without running the engine?

Raw water system of an indirectly ( freshwater) cooled engine or a raw water cooled engine ?

Id think in either case it will depend on the engine ... how about sharing its identity

D1-20F ?

Sorry D1-20F, freshwater-cooled.

I do this once lifted ashore. I take the cover off the primary water filter and start the engine. Pour about 2l mixed antifreeze into the filter and you can see it going through the pipes into the engine. Once my antifreeze is all gone, stop the engine. Then remove impeller for winter. D1-30 engine.

Have never tried it, but if compelled to I would probably try to pour in a litre or so from the highest point on the circuit, most likely where the antisiphon sits.

I remove the exhaust hose and hang a kids bucket under the high rise manifold. Then disconnect the anti-syphon loop and pour the magic mixture into the hose.
So I'm preserving the manifold which is cast iron and the exchanger which probably doesn't mater as it's bronze. However the SS silencer still sits there full of salt water :(
You need to be absolutely sure that no mixture gets back up into the cylinders. So needs to be a high rise manifold.
Exhaust hose is a pain to get off. Skinned knuckles and swearing. But then you're supposed to remove it over winter anyway and block off the manifold with an oily rag.
