Been hauled out now at Rochford, and just had a look at the wet bits.

We didnt scrub off at all last year, just lifted, powerwash and 2 coats of Flag Performance Extra, back in (24 hours).

We have a small patch of barnacles where we missed the 2nd coat, about 8 inches by 6 inches, very light weed near the waterline, and general light coating of slime all over. Thats it.

Nothing like previous years.

On Full Circle we have used:
International Cruiser Uno
Blakes Tiger
Blakes Ocean Performer
XM
Some Black stuff being sold down the yard.

None of those met the performance of the Flag Performance.

Now, where can I get some cheap this year?

Would it be suited to blatting about at 20 kts

Or is it just for sssssssllllllllloooooooowwwwwwww boats :D

Copper based antifouling. FLAG Performance Extra Antifouling is semi-hard to enable use in most craft up to 35 knots but still able to refresh its surface with some mild erosion. Proven performance for all types fouling in all waters. Theoretical spreading rate: 10 sq.metres per litre. Manufactured in the UK by FLAG Paints Ltd.

1st week of April.....

It's nice to find something that works as there are a lot that don't seem to.
I think we're pretty lucky where we moor as we generally don't seem to get the level of fouling prevalent elsewhere.
Maybe it's the dilution of the salt water with flow from the brook that flows in to one side of the marina or the 'basin off the main river' effect. Maybe it's everyone else's antifoul in the marina making a chemical solution that contributes to the destruction of things.
We have been here for eleven and a half years now with two different boats but we only expect to recoat every two years. Last time was two and a half.
We now seem to spend the money we save on having the prop coated with Propspeed.

Jim, do you dry out at all in your berth - if so do you get a coating from the mud on the antifouling?
If you do, then it sounds like a good result that would greatly interest we mud-berthers.

No, not really. I probably get damp rather than dry at LWS.

But it is semi hard, so seems to last on the bits that do touch down.

Very interesting! I have Coppercoat and here at West Mersea it's next to useless. I have a lift and scrub every month in the season and as well as that I put her on the posts when I can.

Last season she was scrubbed in the first week of September and when lifted in the first week of November you needed a Dutch hoe for the barnacles and weed.

In the first season I had the boat I used Flag Flagship, as it was then, and it's performance was quite OK, but the boat became heavily slimed. So I bought at the Boat Show in 2003 Seajet Emperor, which they said was specific against slime. They said that it was compatible with the Flag but it was not. I had to have it all slurry blasted off. Then I thought 'as it's back to bare gel coat, why don't I use Coppercoat' - and here we are. It's never been any good and I reached agreement with the makers for a refund 'on the steps of the Court' as it were.

Now what to do? I wonder if I had stuck to Flagship..............

Jim, If that was the Flag stuff we got "on the cheap" from Marinestore(?) last year, then I think I have a tin in red going for a song.

No. Most of you bought the £15.99 cheap stuff.

I bought the other bargain at £36 quid which was still half price.

But you would get your money back on ebay at 20 quid a tin!!!!!

I have a pile of gear that will makwe its way onto ebay/here when I get round to it.

Jim used the same stuff from july 08 to sept 09 without a mid season scrub, apart from a few barnicals where the keel sits into the mud we were also as mr FC describes, have used Flag for the last 5 years really happy with it
