Antifouling in the cold.....

Want to get my boat back in the water pronto.

Got vc offshore hard antifouling for racing.

Says 10 degrees minimum temp.

Tomorrow is forecast 8.

Thursday 10.

How reckless is it to do it in 8 degrees? What is going to happen?!

There may never be another day with 10 degrees as i am nearly at the north pole.......

(Edinburgh actually).

I am a rule follower...... Makes me nervous....

I used VC offshore for about 10 years, applied in weather far colder than that without any problems.

On one occasion it started snowing soon after I removed the masking tape.

when painting in cold weather we used to put the paint can in a bucket of warm water---made it easier to apply

Hmmm. My boat has been hijacked by my mates who want to race for free..... So my timetable is now dictated by the racing season! The poor lambs would have nothing to do on a Wednesday evening if i decided to go cruise mode for a year......

I've antifouled when it was snowing, antifoul worked as well as in other years !

We also antifoul in the summer. Boat stays in all year round and comes out for a week in the spring/summer. No problem getting lifts in or out when I want them or finding anywhere to come out. The real bonus is not having to work in the cold and wet, and long stretches of daylight.

I'd rather be antifouling in indifferent weather and sailing in the better stuff rather than the other way round

I successfully antifouled at Kip 2 weeks ago. It was below 10 degrees, went on just fine. Remember it is probably the hull temperature which is more critical than the air temperature, and also remember to keep the paint warm (perhaps keep it in the house the night before)'

Well i was going to start today but was raining!! No rain in forecast either!!

You missed a good antifouling day today (thursday) about 10c and dry apart from one short shower. As people say keep paint in house night before and 8c will be fine. Keeping it in hot water is a good trick I have used. Just hope the masking tape you have had on for a few days comes off!
