Why or how can Screwfix sell anti foul cheaper than the manufacturer. Not worried about the price or the quality but it seems odd that the manufacturer is not the most cost effective??? I know it’s only a quid or two but…………………

Possibly the manufacturer wants to concentrate on making the stuff, putting a higher price on it at the factory to add value but leave the selling and delivery over to a company that already has a large network.

I have been told that the antifoul is of a reasonable good quality too.

anti fouling prices can varie For example if you are in via Reggio you find a lot of medium size (23/30 meter) motor yachts have their refits done there, if you know the skipper hell introduce you to a forman who will provide 20liters of TBT top name, for 50euros. If you further up the coast to a small manufactura he will charge about 6Euros a liter but he will put his hand in a large sack of TBT and add an extra hand full of TBT to your mix!!!! he dosent where a mask either.

What im saying is anti fouling is not expensive and the price asked depends on the market supplied.

MOBO owners are great people they always manage to produce good wine and are gererous as well!!

Same reason as supermarkets sell 'own brand' products. The brand name is what sells the product, so comes with a mark up. Supermarkets have similar goods manufactured and sell without the brand name premium

A NOTE TO MY PREVIOUS POST: I want to add that the antifouling sold in via Reggio is done so openly, but first you must be a client, sail groups also buy there for the whole groupe. It is just to give an idea of the cost price,Shipyards may only add a few percent??
If you want it out of the back door im told Livorno s the place thats the first communist city in Italy, there they give moorings at a low price, and why its so expensive as the locals rerent the place---communist capitalists!!!

Secondly i buy all my antifouling TBT free from the paint shop in our town in France as im based there, and a while ago while in Italy i bought some antifouling there from a shop, next morning the whole lot had pealed off and i had to strip and redo it in two days! The antifouling in France is enviromentaly freindy providing a good base for weed to grow, fish to feed and provids a home for crustations.

And the paint sold is sold in 10 20 or 50liter containers but the paint is weighed in kilos

I think you'll find that Flag is copper-based, with no biocide. I've been doing some research and came to the conclusion that I will use Micon Plus since I want it to last two years. But it is horribly expensive and I wouldn't use it if I had the sort of boat I could antifoul between the tides.
