Antares 760 steering to starboard

Good afternoon folks,

I’m a new owner to a Antares 760, I noticed on its first passage in my ownership that it pulls to starboard, is this normal or does anyone know what may be contributing to
It? It’s a hard enough pull that I need to keep a hand on the steering wheel but not so hard that it’s to much of an issue. I should also mention the steering is hydraulic.

I won’t delve into the details & will keep brief for those wondering - I purchased the boat over seas and the day I arrived it was not ideal conditions for a sea trial. We took it out none the less but the steering was not evident in such conditions. I’ve asked the broker if this potential issue already existed but there has been no response.

All the 760s I have seen, including mine, have single cable steering so I guess yours has been modified. With my cable steering I do not get any significant "pull" although if I let go of the wheel it will not stay in a straight line. What were you expecting?

Thanks for your reply. I have seen many threads of the 760 where you have responded & it would seem you have very good knowledge

I was expecting the boat to steer much like the boats I’ve had with an outboard (this is my first shaft/rudder boat).
If I were to let go on the steering in my old merry fisher (outboard) for example, the boat would keep course, if I do that in the 760, I will end up going in circles, all be in, rather large circles.

The steering is somewhat lethargic which was expected but the pull to starboard has me questioning whether there is an issue which needs investigating.

difficult to comment without feeling! There are a lot of 760s around, maybe you can find one in a marina near you and ask the owner to feel yours for comparison. You may want to consider upgrading to an autopilot anyway, will then hold a straight course

I had a Merry Fisher 805, if i let go of the wheel it would do a big circle. As you say, an auto pilot will cure it.

Great, thanks guys. That has put my mind somewhat to ease. I will look into an autopilot.
