Antares 760 Gearbox dry?

Hello, I read somewhere here about someone replacing their gearbox in an Antares 760 that the 2005 model is not available and the newer model requires a shorted shaft.

I am looking for advise/help on what to do next, I have a 2005 Antares 760 under offer subject to survey, while surveying it today we dipped the gear box and it is almost dry, the bear tip of the dipstick has oil on it. It was news to the owner when shown to him, there is about a pint in the bilge.
should I take for a sea trial and look out for leaks and temperature of oil
ask for it to be removed and inspected for damage to cogs etc
re-negotiate price and take my chances (its a sellers market so probably fill up with oil and re-advertise)
Walk away
any advise is appreciated, the id badge is below, the power is a VP Tamd 41p-a

IF thats a view of the the gearbox id walk away does not look well maintaind
 
The boat and Engine itself is well maintained but the gearbox does look shabby, excuse the pics they are horrendous, can these boxes put up with much hardship? It has been lying on the hard for a year and a half and their is some oil ( atf )in the bilge so I don't know if the gear was run dry. Any ideas on how to know if it has done damage? Any idea what temperature these gear boxes normally run at? Is it a big ordeal to remove them to inspect? Thanks

Agree with bluejasper2 about the worrying amount of corrosion. A sea trial will not be enough and the seller is unlikely to bear the cost of a stripdown so either get a quote to fit a new gearbox (and shaft?) and see if the seller will reduce the price or walk away.

A thought: just in case there is something causing an incorrect dipstic reading, before the owner has had a chance to add any, suck out all the oil and see just how much was in there compared with the quoted capacity.
 
Thanks for the replies, I walked away and feel better for it. The search continues, I found a beauty in Denmark but the transport is €8k to Ireland o_O...... the search continues!
