This is largely pipedreaming, but I sail a Pentland Ketch & fancy a bit of an office/ greenhouse on my next boat so I am considering a few options.

Requirements are: around 30-35'
Pilothouse or inside steering position
BILGE KEELS (I sail in shallow water & dry out frequently)
Price; £35-45k ish

Current options;
Colvic Countess Pilothouse
Westerly Vulcan
Moody Eclipse
Southerly 100

Any others you can think of that meet my brief? How about a few catermaran suggestions? Any comments on the ones listed above - Pos or neg?

Hey! no sneaky buying up Countesses whilst I'm away now!

I liked the non-pilothouse version we had for those few sweet weeks, but I certainly appreciated the benefits of the pilothouse version I looked at in Essex. The step down into the pilot house from the cockpit is a graceful few steps instead of being a precipitous clamber down.. seriously beneficial to the older and/or more intoxicated amongst us (hmmm Dr Fielding). The one I saw had a canvas awning over the wheel which was mounted right on the forward cockpit bulkhead, not like LadyInBeds. I think the cockpit was smaller than Green Gini's too.

Dream away old bean... see you when we finally find a new countess, or else we drag Eider Duck over to Caernarfon for one last La-La blast.

Cheers

Colvic Victor 34 would be a perfect recommendation until I saw the bilge keel requirement... with a draught of 2'2" she's not so shallow! Great seaboat and liveaboard though.

Westerly Konsort Duo?

Certainly qualifies on the 'greenhouse' and bilge keel stakes /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Maybe a bit shorter than your spec, but I would imagine roomier inside than the Southerly 100.

You won't get an Eclipse for that money (except the one currently for sale in Greece). If you could then I'd have one!

The 33 is nice but pricey for what it is. Personally the only Eclipse worth it's money is either the 38 or the 43 ... the 43 being my ideal boat. Pity that most owners don't want to sell !!

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif 2'2" would be fine, but they are 5' long keel. Moonshine has just sold & I have often admired her in "Coffin Bay" by Port Dinorwig. I just couldn't cope with the falling over bit, or spindly legs sinking into mud/sand.

Ok, not a bilge keel... but I think these are the nicest small Motor sailors.... adds some drying legs and I would have this...

LM 30

Macwester Seaforth 36

or how about putting a good well designed and executed wheel shelter on one of the bigger Westerly boats.
You seem to see a few around with wheel shelters these days
and that style of boat probably suits.

I must admit a decent dog house on my Pentland has long been a wish. But executing it properly is the big issue.

I also fancied the LM30 until I went aboard one. Pilothouse is effectively for skipper only & accom is not as good as on my Pentland despite significantly higher prices. I think I am spoilt by three double berths in three separate cabins, not many 31 footers can match that.

I'd forgotten about the Seaforth, thanks for the reminder.

British Hunter put a wheelhouse on their 32ft boat & called it the Horizon 32.They only built around 30ish of them but they fulfill your requirements. The first one also won it's class in the Round the Island race much to the surprise of most people.
