we got within a mile of the UEA then chickened out in our Co32, they dont do backwards very well![]()
If you got to within a mile of the UEA on the Colne I would have said it was a pretty neat trick! Unless of course there is a back route through North Essex and Suffolk that links up with the Yare??!!

Hi,Yup, with a 6 foot draft it was a quick visit before the tide turned. The upper reaches of the Colne feel very different to when I first visited as a youngster;

Hi,
What year was this photo taken? That looks like a Leisure 23 against the wall - might even be my son in the hatch.
That's a relief. Mine was still based in Holyhead then, not coming to the East Coast with her until 1992.Well spotted it is indeed a Leisure 23 and I suspect it will have been taken in the early 80's, however the handsom young chap in the hatch is me.
If I remember correctly that was at a Rowhedge regatta, and the boat that got squashed was I believe a Mirror Offshore...all the racing dinghies would have been up on the marshes on the Wivenhoe shore, most of us were transported to the Anchor by the rescue boat doing repeated trips to and fro. The return race starts were often shall we say quite 'interesting'!!Well spotted it is indeed a Leisure 23 and I suspect it will have been taken in the early 80's, however the handsom young chap in the hatch is me
Around that time there was a raft of boats moored alongside the Anchor pub when one of the ships didn't quite make the turn and smashed into them. I can still recall the sound of cracking glassfibre.
I knew I'd got a photo of that visit to Rowhedge. Touchstone re-floated after leaning on pub's wall all night.
It seems like only yesterday, but the scenery has changed somewhat in the last 30 years.
