Apologies in advance for another Savvy Navvy post. I have searched and can't seem to find any clarity.

1) I can't find the particular depth readings at particular places on my on screen map. It states to click on the screen and go by the nearest tidal diamond. Fine, I get that. However, this is still somewhat general. Surely there is a way in which you can click on a very specific location and get the readings exactly where you're clicking on? Much like Navionics etc. I have only really got Savvy Navvy as an extra string to my bow when it comes to plotting routes (due to it taking into account tide/wind etc). Is what I am trying to do even possible?

2) I'm finding that the tidal info is a bit poxy if you're looking at the East Coast (UK). Sometimes the tidal info is clearly inaccurate as I'm familiar with some areas already. Is this app no good for The East Coast.

I'm half tempted to contact Savvy Navvy and ask for my £89 back. I'm just trying to keep an open mind about it in case it may be even just a little bit helpful.

Any advice appreciated.

How about contacting them? I have found them very responsive on the few occasions I've had a question.

Maybe try that first and give them a chance to answer.

I've found it a great little app and was an early customer.

Fair enough, though this isn't a sabotage job on SN. I was just wondering if anyone had found the same issues or not.

I've just cancelled my subscription.

I used SN to plan for an elaborate night sea kayak paddle on the tidal Thames from the foot of the Isle of Dogs inward bound supposedly 1.5 hours before HT. I found myself paddling against the tide for 2 hours solid on my way back to get back to my launch point. The app gave tidal data that was at least 2 hours wrong. I've checked obvious things like BST and GMT but that doesn't even come close to explaining why the app was wrong on both my mac and my phone.

Shocking.

Did you check SN against any other source of tidal stream data?

I'm going to stick with Boating/Navionics.
SN seemed too good to be true and it was.

Very, very foolishly, I didn't in advance. Now in retrospect yes - it's at least 2 hours out with the BBC and PLA.

I’ve got into a little groove of just using it initially during my plotting/passage planning, and perhaps with a little pinch of salt too. I revert to my Navionics when I’m actually sailing. I must say that I do like that it gives me an extra perspective.

I plan on giving it a proper go. We’ll see how it turns out. There is a level of detail on SN that I do like, I must say .

Just got a refund from the Play Store. Used up my free trial a couple of months ago so paid £89 to reactivate as I wanted to see it's opinion on which side of Jersey to pass working tides from St Malo up to Sark. I thought it couldn't work out the distance as the route went between rocks but even placing a from/to waypoint a mile apart in open sea, the "calculating distance" gets stuck forever.

Tried it on a friends Apple device, worked perfectly. All my stuff is android. Opened a chat with them and uploaded screenshots. Messages quickly ticked "read" but over 24 hours later, no response from them. There is clearly an android issue so I deleted the app and claimed a refund from the Play Store which paid up immediately.

In fairness, I think I should point out,, SN is a lot better than I first thought. There is a way of getting the depth detail I had mentioned in my original comment. What I have found is that SN and it's plotting function has helped me to plan a passage. It has given me a few extra things to think about and has helped me feel more confident prior to setting off. I still use Navionics mainly though. Well, pretty much all of the time.

Orca is not really free! If you want the many potentially useful features for actual sailing - off line maps, routing that accounts for tide, weather, polar plot you need to pay.
Don't agree, free version gives you a lot and by far the best 3d chart view of all of them

having used SN on my journey from brighton to the bristol channel, i have concluded, categorically, that i will not be subscribing again.
1, it often struggles to plot a course over 40 miles long, without me having to insert waypoints all over the place, when my expectation was that it would choose the best waypoints for the journey?
2, it is seemingly absolutely incapable of plotting a course, in advance, when my boat is at a drying out location.
3, it is a constant source of irritation that when plotting a new course it asks me where i wish to plot from.....my current location maybe? just a suggestion? try selecting your own boat in a packed out marina, mayflower marina did my head in to the point i chose a start point outside the marina.
4, it appears incapable of plotting a course in advance entirely, always seeming to plot from my current position, regardless of my selecting a different location.
5, fumbling to pick up my phone many times, i inadvertently cancelled the track i was on, leaving me having to replot a course 10 miles offhore where there was no wifi coverage, its not possible.
6, saving a plot, then reopening the plot results in it recalculating the plot irrespective of whether im setting off at the precise time i plotted the course for in the first place.
7, it plotted a chart and course for me which tried to direct me into padstow across the sandbar in the middle of the channel.
8, it doesnt give you an option to pick a departure time BEFORE it plots a course, it insists on plotting a course first, then you get the option to pick a date and time, then replot it all again, and then once again, you save that course, but it replots it again anyway, so what is it saving precisely????

the list is quite endless, i wont bore you all with all the details.
but i found it a source of perpetual irritation and frustration.
