I know there has been some discussion just lately on this, or one of the forums about Pantaenius.
However I have just today had some good news from them and feel compelled to pass this on.
Last Summer I had a little coming together with a Pontoon at Aktio. There is a tidal eddy here which goes the opposite way to the tide. I am embarresed to have been caught out by it. But S**t happens as they say.
It is quite a long scratch an d deep in places and the boat has been Awlgripped, so I was quite gutted as this is not easy to repair.

Strangely I never thought of the insurance, perhaps because we had to fly home soon after the event, but just didnt consider we were covered. Only this week I checked my policy and contacted Pantaenius and discovered we were.
Unfortunately with it being such an old claim they were not liable to cough up.

However having explained the situation they have agreed to accept the claim and I have now got time to get a quote sorted at Easter.

Quite refreshing I thought. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.

Wow!!! Well done!!!

What are you going to spend the money that you are getting back on (having already paid for the repairs, you can afford to be frivolous!!!!)?

Ahh no you mis-understand me, the repair hasn't been done I meant it is already Awlgripped. Which makes the job more of a problem and more expensive. I was just happy with Pants's offer.

From a slightly different direction....

One of my neighbours is - or was quite recently - VERY senior indeed in the UK general insurance world. In fact, his group own subsidiaries all round the world. I took him sailing a while ago, down to the Scillies and back, while his big Bentley was parked on the breakwater at QAB.

In conversation, I asked him about Pantaenius UK branch, who have an office there. He told me they were forever engaged in infighting with their underwriters' syndicate, on behalf of some of their clients' 'marginal' claims. It seems they have a reputation in the industry for fighting our corner - even sometimes when it isn't properly justified.

Technically, AFAIK 'Pants' is a broker - and an agent - tied to one underwriting org.

Just an observation.....

Ahh yes you are quite correct. I had originally written that Pantaenius approached the insurers on my behalf and then told me that they had agreed to cover it. But somehow I edited it out before posting.
Thanks for pointing that out, it is quite important to understand I think.

To be quite honest, this should not be unusual. So long as they are not expected to pay for any increase in costs bought bout by the delay (i.e. if the damage had got worse), then you are not required to report the claim straight away.

Some times I have clients who take the michael and where damage has oviously got much worse as a result of their inertia, but in a case like yours, I see no reason why the insurer shouldn't look at it.

If anyone has a case where the insurer has said 'sorry chump, you should have reported this straiht away' then I would be interested to hear about it. There is a clause in our policies saying that you should report claims at the earliest possible opportunity, but provided our postion is nnot prejudiced by a delay then it would be unfair for us to enfore it. Obviously if the repairs have all been carried out then our position has been prejudiced, but that is not the case here.
