As a backup to my backup navigation system, I'm running OpenCPN on an Android phone (not tablet). However, I can't get the charts to load. I have them copied to both device and SD card, and the OpenCPN adds them in the usual way, but they don't appear.
Any ideas?

Not to suggest for a moment that the very knowledgeable members on here might not be able to help, but just as an additional resource, over on cruiserforums there is a specific section that deals exclusively with opencpn. You might find some more info there.

As GHA has said the free Android version is too out of date now. I seem to recall others haver reported chart problems with that version. Update to the paid version and if there's still no joy go to the dedicated forum at bigdumboat.com/aocpn/forum/

I have the free version of OpenCPN which I installed when it was the only Android version of OpenCPN and was only available using an APK manual install.

It still works fine with CM93 but you do have to manually tell OpenCPN where to find the charts and do the refreshrebuild/ database stuff. I have my CM93 on an SD card but I first installed them on the tablet memory and got it all working from there before I moved the charts to the card and told OpenCPN where to find them again.

The free version is licenced on google play . A bit updated from the original apk however android phones have a slight issue depending on which version of android you have. The main thing in the later versions is the charts are only recognised in the phone physical memory not on the sd card. It is also worth going into settings for apps clearing cashe and forceing stop.for some
reason I had to reload the charts when I tried to move them to the sdcard . Memory then becomes an issue so onky load the area you need .

Google play has both free and paid for borg are legitimate but the paid for one is perhaps worth paying for the sdcard particularly if you want a very large chart area .Android 8 oreo will use the sdcard
if you adopt the sdcard but that brings other issues.

Official version is way ahead in terms of updates and bug fixes. More plugins imminent as well

Source code is all opensource if you want to compile for android yourself.
