Another new owner - anyone at Windsor Marina?

Bad Luck and Trouble have been my only Friend etc.

"I know it's unlucky to change name but it us named after the previous owners wife so we wanted to change it. "

All my previous boats have a had a change of name. All my bad luck came in one go when I got married and things never seemed to have got any worser.:)

Presume I can rely on the forum not mention this post to MrsOG.

Oh, just saw the sticky. Perhaps if I behave myself between now and then we will be allowed to attend :D

Probably find a job for you to do. Try to give all the onerous tasks to newbies - quickest way of helping them get to know everybody. How good are you are collecting orders for fish and chips?

There are a few hereabouts that lurk in MDL Windsor marina but its the smallest of the 3 Thames marinas - 175 berths compared to 400 at Bray and around 600 at Penton so you'll be a small fish in a small pool as opposed to a minnow in a big one. They also have the Windsor Yacht Club which has rather smart premises and seems to seduce many of them into staying ashore rather than actually going boating. :D

Hiya Sulley

Welcome to the Thames and Windsor marina the best marina on the river Thames. We are moored on J pontoon which is the coolest place to moor in the marina! The marina staff are great and I am sure you will enjoy your stay here. Look forward to meeting you, if you need any help with the renaming give us a shout specially the drinking bit!

Hi Sulley

Welcome & good luck with the new boat! I also gew up messing around on boats in Penton Hook, but through the 70s. Bought a Bayliner 2755 in 1997 and had a very happy year on the boat reaching Abingdon one way and St Kats the other way.

We're at Bray, so will no doubt bump into you in a lock sometime, metaphorically speaking of course!

Mark

Boatone - I do whatever jobs my other half instructs me to! I am well trained :D you need to speak to the boss...

I promise that we will be planning to leave the marina as much as possible, I spent far too many years in Penton Hook Yacht club as a teenager :o

Chill - Thanks for the greeting, we will be on pontoon I, look forward to meeting you.

I am sure we will drop into Bray at some point in the future.

Yep, we're at Windsor

Hi Sulley,
Have been off-line for a bit; we're at Windsor, so would be happy to meet. Strangely, we have just renamed our boat. One thing you should know, though; if deference to your wife - our boat's Norwegian!!

PM me if you want to chat Windsory things.

Mike.

Hi Rossavage. Don't know if you rember us from last year (Viking 24 - Lazyleas) but we were very much in your debt when you helped us in a "situation" in a lock.
We have upsized and are spending a while on the Trent for a look around  - Wish there were more moorings.

Sulley - you'll fine they are all a good crowd

Blimey - I dont remember that! What happened? Pm me if you don't want to share it here....

Enjoy the Trent :)

I looked a few times, but couldn't see much reason to choose Windsor over Bray!

Sure, nice name to impress your friends with, larger clubhouse for Members, and a toilet pump out, although very few of TWYC members seem to venture out on the water these days, as they are all practising the Table decorating skills they are so well known for, but missing the lovely wooded grounds and extra car parking spaces that Bray have.

Why do you Windsor people choose thus? :o

Can't get under the bridge when the river level is high...

RYB has that horrid mill stream that I don't seem to fit down (overhanging trees and self-dredging philosophy).

We have moored at all three of the Windsor marinas and have found everyone (almost) really friendly, helpful and chatty. The only reason we are at Windsor is because it was our first one and SWMBO really likes it there. I guess its just as well we're all individuals, or, as No Regrets would probably put it; 'No accounting for taste!'

Bray's bridge is now higher... they had it rebuilt on top of some concrete plinths because it was causing difficulties for some flybridge cruisers.

Ahhh.. When was that? Last time I tried to get in was about three years ago on red boards... was really amusing trying to reverse back out from half way under the bridge into a 10kn stream. :)

We looked at Windsor Racecourse, Windsor and Bray and liked Windsor because it was small and the people we met were really friendly. We did visit Bray on a very wet and windy day which may not have helped!

Hi Mike, we will keep a look out for you when we get there. However, Norwegians and Swedes have a love/hate relationship :D. The other half does reluctantly admit the Norwegians make the best Aquavit - Linie. We will be arriving with our herring and schnapps very soon....
