The sealant at the hull keel joint on my Colvic Atlanta is in poor condition. I really want to sort it this winter.
This is a long keel, Iron at the front and wood towards the stern. The keel is almost a foot wide at the hull interface. I suspect that the sealant is only damaged/failed up to an inch deep into the gap.
I had thought about getting it really dry (SWIMBOs hairdrier again) And squeezing sealant in. Will this work OK and wahat sealant is best?
Thanks for any advice.
Happy Christmas to all!!

I had a similar problem but nothing like as deep. The surveyor recommended that I clean it up and insert sealant. I was very doubtful as the edge of the iron was quite rounded. But I did it on the basis that it was better done than not done. And most stayed put. I suspect that all its doing is protecting the seal behind it. An inch deep is quite deep I would say and worth doing something - and you will get better mechanical grip. Sealant - I guess I would be thinking about a polysulphide - Sixaflex, Purflex.
