Motorboat and Yachting weren't that impressed with the performance of the 40' Greenline......
There seems to be quite a lot of expertise in designing a semi- displ. Hull.
Buying an 'unknow' hull design could be very risky.

You did call this thread : Another idiot with mad idea's: new boat build.
Just a thought; semi- displ. Steel boats are unusual, because of the weight penalty over GRP. You're going to need lots of power to get up to S/D speed.
But: it's quite common to have steel Catamarans for use on offshore wind farms and fish farms. Very economical at displ. Speeds, and they can reach quite high speeds in the low S/D range on very small engines.
As far as I know you will still get in at the £1k/foot steel hull cost, maybe a little bit more.
The weight penalty over plastic is lessened as the vessels get larger and larger. According to a lot of reading I have done anyway. The link above does a better job of describing this relationship better than I can.
If the fifty comes in under 20 tonnes seems a fair reasonable figure to me. But what i know can be written on a stamp... A very small stamp.
£15K for four CV joints seems a bit steep. get the the shaft/engines well aligned and fit tides marine seals so that the shaft seal is essentially floating on a silicon rubber tube. Isolates the rumbling noise.
What a georeous looking boat, I take back what I said about the aft section, it works very well in reality. View attachment 32709
Mini- superyacht......
Just shows, it's very hard to judge from a set of plans.
Does it only have a single engine?
It's in a totally different league to a Bruce Roberts, the Dutch are geniuses with steel.
I'm glad you like it. It is definitly not a Bruce Roberts...
This particular one has only a single. I am off to holland next month to look at this one, and another being built.
ok, engine front not looking good at the mo. dealer cant fire them up and is currently tearing the heads off and crank out to find out why....
maybe these are not destined for me. what it does do though, is shift priorities, means I can move quicker on the steel work. which is good news if I want it water tight by winter....
bloody work tomorrow stops play...
Big milestone coming up. Am about to drop the deposit for the steel work and drawings....
A few minor mods at the moment. Will look more in depth when get more drawings, but looking at a swim platform for the tender, or possibility a garage. will know more when get more in depth drawings. but hi lo platform looks like a good idea for scuba diving.
Also, the possibility of sliding door next to the helm position, ala sea ranger style. The Italians make some good fixtures for this type. Off to Holland straight after I finish work to look and see, vessels in construction and finished.
Lots of quotes coming in for various parts and systems.
Steelwork should be here August
Slight change and a few details still to work out.
Going for the old hull design, in 50 foot.
With a new more rounded top and helm. More rounded window section.
Maybe a few extras. Latest drawings are been done as we speak.
Any mods after that is down to me and the boat yard in Wales.
