another idiot with mad ideas, new boat build

Considering what you do for a living I would call this an outbreak of sanity :p:p

Thanks very much, I knew I could count on someone for abuse and truth :)

Heres my rough list of equipment and vessel systems, and wants to put in side a steel tub.
lots of research to do here now...

Any equipment gurus please feel free to comment...

No generator? I would avoid cooking on gas if at all possible. What sort of insulation do you plan on using, a spray on foam or something like Rockwool? Condensation is your biggest enemy on a steel boat.

I agree on the generator!

however, I don't see the point of avoiding gas, as a matter of fact, I love gas! (er, well not in that sense, but as far as cooking with it is a breeze and oven cooks so much better than electric!)

cheers

V.

PS. Rob, massive list, hope the designer comes up with some suggestions on particular items else you'll be in total chaos!

Insulation, I will be asking a good friend at Merwede ship yard what they recomend. I know they have used a mixture of spray foam and rockwool boards,

Generator is on the list.. It should be anyway... yes it is,
Why the gas issue... just out of curiosity..
personally i prefer the idea, as its clean, good for cooking, and does not make noise unlike a gen set

Apart from the safety issue the problem with gas is that in different countries you have different connections so getting a refill might be a problem.

If you do just one thing, and I was told umteen times and choose to ignore it, use spray on foam on the roof ceiling.

How do I know......
Condensation is your biggest enemy on a steel boat.

I used polystyrene sheet pushed between the frames. It doesnt work. Ok on the sides where the condensation drips down vertically and doesn't drip on your head.

You've been told!!!:o

I believe anything is possible.
It will need touching up again, as where internal bits possibly get welded, or fixed to but that should not be an issue.
I am jotting down a list of notes to ask on saturday. We shall see.
Currently, I am not a fan of the new design, it looks not as sleek. I will post after saturday if possible, a drawing.
The boat yards in Holland have been doing steel built stuff since steel was invented, so they will have all to hand.

Hi Rob,

Wow what a fantastic project.. and the end result looks like a fine boat, great lines..

Look forward to reading more..

latest specs,
displacement below 20 tonnes, speed in excess of 25knots. from the horses mouth....
edit, obviously engine power dependent...

do we have any hull shape gurus in the house, who could have a look at the designs.

This is the older drawing,, the latest has lost that sleek profile. with a more vertical bow.

Rob,

Missing the Engine room fire extinguishers and air intake shuters...

Like the thought about a "sea chest" to reduce through hull fittings...

Also would be good to have a stern mounted anchor and winch if going across to Norway....

Double bed in aft cabin can of course house the underwater scooter and be deployed in a moon pool between the props ...

We have a sea chest on Eos, it's a great idea, I can if necessary get to all the seacocks and clear any debris from inside the boat by removing the perspex lid.
