After installing a hawk wind direction indicator to my mast head I was somewhat confussed when I went back down to my boat and saw the wind direction indicator had become jammed on one of the arms.

After dropping the mast again I realised that the arrow has no clearence over the arms. Tried to bend them slightly but didnt want to snap them and they just seemed to go back.

I cant understand why this would happen. Has anyone else had this problem?

John

I'd think gently bending the arms will sort it out; check the central spigot alignment though, a chum had his Hawk ( and separate VHF aerial ) seriously disimproved by a Cormorant settling on his masthead !

Odd the arrow should ( obviously) rotate clear of the arms.

Absolutely no problems with mine. Its been on there for about 30 years although taken of and refitted every winter.

I can only suggest you work carefully through the instructions again.

I am surprised you did not notice it did not rotate properly before you fitted it.

Do the arms look bent.. they should be dead straight and horizontal.

I forget if you said this was one fitted on an aerial or not

I did notice that they where just hitting the arms, but was assured that once it was upright and in place it should be fine.

That was wrong. I really cant see how I can adjust it as everything is in the correct place and Ive put it together so many times I could do it blind folded.

Its not on an aerial.

Very Strange.

When you tighten the screws up for the clamp onto the support rod do you find the referance arms rising? Wondering whether it is sitting properly on the lip.

Are the arms going in fully when you set it up with the appropriate locking piece?

Any chance of some close-ups?

I wonder if some one did some parts swapping in the chandlers and you have the wrong vane for the arms.

I have the large size Haw here beside me. the arms are not horizontal but slop downwards so that the tabs on the end is almost in line with the tab on the vane which clears them by about 10 mm . The arms are about 12 mm below the vane at the spindle and about25 mm below the vane at the extremity. This clearance is maintained by the long sleeve on the vane.
