Another fine GB Plan for sailors (Discuss!)

Don\'t worry

It's all IT based, so it's bound to:

1. Be delayed - several times, before being cancelled
2. Be massively over budget, then run out money and will end up being cancelled
3. Run into all sorts of technical problems, will then require extra money to have the problems fixed. Still won't work end will end up being cancelled.

After all or any of the above have occured the agency set up to run the thing will be scrapped.

Cynic? Moi?

Just a thought

Everyone goes on about how many immigrants are coming in to the country every year but how many people leave every year?
I Have a couple of friends who have left to go sailing this year.
Every one i have spoken to knows someone who is leaving or has left.
So is the population of the uk getting bigger or is it staying the same?
Does anyone have any figures on how many are coming and going?

Rob

[/ QUOTE ] By coincidence, a set of stats has just been published. 400,000 people left the UK last year (not all British - many of them people from overseas returning home) and about 590,000 came in, the majority from the Asian sub-continent, so the stuff about tidal waves of Eastern Europeans is a bit of a red herring. Therefore a total net increase of about 190,000. The 400,000 figure is a record, apparently.

The government couldn't tell you. Unlike most European countries I travel through, only the UK doesn't have an immigration desk when you leave.

If it helps I agree with you. I was just playing devils advocate rather than giving my own feelings about yet more controls upon us. They only ever appear to restrict people (us) who try to follow the rules, or affect us when there are so many damn rules that we fall foul of one and end up with some official in a little office attempting to explain that some of us do in fact like to go on holiday and are also in fact, shh, loyal to Britain and the free world.

It seems to me the peaked caps think we are all criminals in waiting.

Indeed, they have forgotten that they are OUR servants.

So, what are you going to do about it? How about if we all vote for an independant candidate at the next election to see if we can undermine the appalling effect of Party Politics?

Yeah, Ok so it won't work because not enough will see the point. And even if it actually happened, the only consequence would be a Parliament of self-seeking individuals with one policy agendas.

So no change there then! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Contrary to popular belief, democracy was in fact invented by Houdini in the 1920s, as an optical illusion to make us think we have a say.........

It's not where the 'incomers' coming from nor where the 'leavers' are going that counts. It appears to be that more 'net- takers' are coming in and it is 'net-contributors' that have had enough and are leaving.

But can any of us believe a word printed in the Express or the Mail any more than we can the Sport?
