At the moment, I'm down at Sant Carles - the new MDL marina in Spain.
The boat is nearly a year old (doesnt time fly) and I wanted to get her ready for the season so after a lot of planning, I decided to use the marina's new boat yard and using some local labour manage the whole thing myself.
This new yard is very impressive - a huge flat concrete area finished so clean and smooth that you could, literally, eat your lunch off it.
After a long drive form Santander, we lifted the boat last Tuesday - here are some pics.
She only just fits in the lift bay
But safe once in the travel lift.
Work immediatly started
This seems to be what happens when you buy a new boat and transfer to her to warm waters without any protection. The factory gave her 2 coats of antifoul but we've done over 2000 miles in her since and there wasn't much left.
And no wonder that my thrusters didnt work - just as well that I didn't need them then!! - eh
I'm now begining to realise the scale of her against my car. Also see how easy it is to work in this yard.
The wind blew up on Wednesday evening. So the yard manager popped out to ensure that I was safe and as a precaution, strapped me firmly down. They've fitted bolt down points throughout the yard for tis purpose. I've used several south coast yards but I'm really impressed with the attitude of the staff here.
OH DEAR WHAT's GOING ON HERE.
Is this to be the colour?
And later on, another forumite's boat gets ready for the plunge. Anyone recognise her?
So she gets the final touch up
`
And then back into the water for, hopefully, a great season.
Meanwhile, back on JW things are looking up on the colour front.
This is the new Velox treatment - I'm not holding my breath but I've just got to try this out before I make any judgements on antifouling sterngear. I havent yet found a bad report on this treatment - in fact all the comments that I've found have been very promising. IMO the biggest battle is to get something to stick - then it must be strong enough to resist the agressive growth in the Med waters.
As far as I'm concerned, the jury is officially now out on this matter.
Anyway, after a week's hard graft, here's the final result.
I've even managed to find the time to get her completely A Glazed so we are now ready for the Med sunshine.
This pic jus about shows the highly glossy finish that we've managed to get.
It just remains for me to keep my fingers crossed for good weather for our relaunch first thing on Monday morning.
