Anodised aluminium

Very difficult...

Cleaning is very difficult, Doug, because you have to be careful not to damage the extremely thin anodised layer. If ordinary soapy water doesn't work, try various solvents (paraffin, petrol, etc). Only as a last resort should you use abrasive cleaners such as Cif (or whatever the equivalent is in St Kitts).

Polishing is easy - any good polish.

Our shower cubicle has an anodised aluminium frame and cleans up very easily with CIF Bath & Shower Spray. You spray it on, leave for a few minutes, then wash it off.

It's very cheap and might be worth a try. If it's no good you can give it to "er indoors" to clean the shower with.

You used to be able to get specialist cleaners for cleaning anodised aluminium cookware from manufacturers such as Meyer - no idea if they still do it or whether it is appropriate.

What I would say is that you should avoid conventional metal polishes - they are likely to erode the anodisation.
