Hello once more :).

Quick one... alum or zinc?

I understand zinc for the channel... but i think portishead is river-fed... and it'll spend 99% of its life sat moored up... so would aluminium be a better option?

(Boat: 6.4m Sealine 195)

Hi,

Portishead is not river fed at all, it is 100% channel water. Zincs are the conventional option for Portishead.

I am a great fan of aluminium anodes however and would certainly not worry about using them anywhere in the Bristol channel, especially if you find yourself visiting Cardiff Bay or Bristol for any length of time.

But don't forget if you do go into any fresh water for a fair lenth of time the zink will crust over and wont work at sea.

Mmm... there's potential for being stranded in Cardiff or Swansea for up to 2 weeks at some point over the upcoming season (if we overnighting and unexpected bad weather prevents seaward return home)...

... would that be enough to crust the zinc?
