My view: If sure the studs are good and you have good conductivity from anode to whatever it is protecting then I would clean off the white stuff with abrasives (but do not use a steel/wire brush) and use it for one season.That is 2 seasons use - so 12 months in the water

Yes, I did that and he did indeed say it required replacement!Show the piccies to your local chandler who will almost certainly tell you to replace them, and happily relieve you of £60
