Apologies in advance, but this has a sailing slant.

I need to get a few SMS files off my old Samsung Galaxy 5s onto my PC.

These text files contain useful information about my boat.

I don't want to transfer all the SMS messages, just a few selective exchanges.

I have no need for backup and restore, or to transfer photographs or call logs.

I've spent quite a lot of time trying different versions of file transfer software and they all seem to be relative complicated and overkill for a one off task.

Can anyone recommend a simple, free, method of transferring a few SMS from an 5s (android version 6.0.1) to a windows 10 PC (Microsoft Windows 10 ProVersion 10.0.17134 Build 17134).

It really does need to be simple to use, this is a one off task.

Try MyPhoneExplorer for Android (Play Store) and download from website for PC. I use it all the time to sync. email, calendar, notes with Outlook 2010 on PC. SMS also appear and can be archived. You can select sync. for all or just SMS, email etc.

When viewing a message, is there a "share" option, often in the menu that appears when you tap 3 dots? If so, share it to email ( to yourself)

Or you might set up a SMS to email gateway and forward the message to that.

Thanks for the suggestions, After googling around for some time I found dr.fone, it's not a free app, but you get ten free trials, I just needed one.

It worked directly on downloading the app and I could save all my SMS text files to my PC, very easily.

I saved them as a .txt file and then load them into MS word. The download has all the conversation, store as blocks, and in date order.
