And what about the Lobster pot buoys?

How many of you have actually had a rope from a lobster pot buoy tangled round your prop, rudder or any other dangly bits?

I have hit a few, but never had a problem (touch wood).

Back in the 80s we had a P-bracket ripped out when rope coiled from prop forwards. Disabled boat requiring urgent tow to lift out facilities. Pot was off Cawsand in Plymouth sound.

"How many of you have actually had a rope from a lobster pot buoy tangled round your prop, rudder or any other dangly bits?"

If you see my post above, 3% of all RNLI call outs last years were due to entanglements.

That's a small %, but if you take out sinkings, fires, medivacs, people off the cliff, and a wide variety of other stuff it will be higher.

Does it show how many were to disabled yachts/mobos, since they are the concern in this discussion, and of those how many were prop tangles/fishing gear?

No, But the following figures show that about 36% of launches were, largely, non-boaty. Therefore 3% of 64% of launches were for entanglement, roughly 4.7% (or 1 in 21 of all boaty call-outs).

(first number is number of call-outs, second is percentage of all call-outs)

Me, twice in six months. Once it was a long float attached to a 4pints milk bottle. It was a hell to disentangle from the rudder.

I did it myself, I did not call for help, so my case as several others does not get recorded into the stats.

Dude sounds harsh, but this stuff is a real pain in the neck, and sooner or later something will have to be done!
