Is that the Romford Navy I read about in a previous post today. I live a few miles from Romford but Ive never seen it. Seriously I hope they were not hurt too bad the helm looked concussed and if thrown overboard I doubt he would have survived.

It was a powerboat race in Missouri a couple if years ago. There were several posts on here at the time with more info.

Don't knock speed boats given what's seen on that video. As with all things, in the hands of unconscious incompetents any boat (in this case) can be a lethal object. I enjoy driving RIBs and other boats but within my abilities and the situation.

What actually stopped the boat after the "crash"?

I thought at first the helm was actually wearing a kill cord and that had cut the engine when he got thrown, but then a minute or two later someone reaches over and turns the engines off.

So how did they get into neutral? Luck?

Its a very old much aired video. Badly handled boat, not at all typical of a sports boat experience. Mind you if you don't like fast boats don't go on them. Simple.

To be fair that was nothing to do with fast boats as such. The fact they set up a camera before setting off just panders to the "Let's show off" in us all!!

Glad it seems no-one was badly hurt.

Not a life jacket or buoyancy aid amounts them either it seems.

I'm curious how you think a life jacket would have helped? More than likely it would have caught the throttle in the fall and caused more of a problem.

In this kind of boat they wouldn't have been expecting to go in the water - and they were right. The sides of the boat are quite high so the boat would have needed to actually capsize for them to end up in the water. If the boat capsizes, there is a blender at thousands of RPM on the surface so you realistically don't want to be on the surface for a little while. Also, what many yachties don't realise is that moboers tend to have manual jackets so if the crew were unconscious it wouldn't inflate. We only have autos because the boom makes unconscious the most likely scenario when entering the water, while they avoid them because falling in at the bow you'd want the option of not floating until the propellor has passed.

I've seen this video quite a few times and until someone pointed out the throttle control I hadn't realised just how competent the helm looks until the crash. He certainly doesn't look the type to have just bought a boat and gone out filming.

Oh, and a lifejacket would have covered the fun bags and spoiled the video for the rest of us :)
