Anchoring

Why choose when nature provides perfect docks for free...

....In the meanwhile Messrs. Rocna and Manson try to fool us it's safe to put our hooks back in the water, when as we all know no self-respecting CQR owner would even dream of using his for other than a garden ornament.....

A new anchor test has been published in the July Issue of the German Nautical magazine YACHT.

Unfortunately… in German!..

Just a few notes:

- Anchors have been tested in three different sea bottoms: Sand – marl/gravel – Mud.

- They have been using a Bavaria 38 sailing boat which is equipped with a Volvo engine D1-30, 20,1 kW / 27,3 hp, not powerful enough to give strong pulls, they have set the upper limit to 250 daN but they say that it is in the range of effort that can be measured with force 5 to 6 wind..

- Two winners with four stars are the Kobra II (198 euros) and the Supreme one ( 387 Euros)

- The Rocna achieved only 2 stars for a price of Euros 440……….

- Supreme ; In sand hold up to the limit 250 daN - in marl/gravel hold up to the limit 250 daN and set uncertainly at 150 DaN in Mud
- Rocna: In sand hold up to the limit 250 daN – doesn’t set in marl/gravel – set badly in mud

Like, I mean, y'know, why bother?

Instead of alone in a remote pool, with just the seabirds and the sunset for company, and one's own well-worn quiet music for background, the rustic aroma of truly-fresh fish grilling, only some chilled Muscadet .... and the long near-silence, with just the 'shushing' of a low swell on the rocks.

Who would want to be stuck with that? Can't see the point, myself.

;)

Like this, you mean....

Don't think you can buy an Ancoralatina, they didn't ever reply to my sales enquiry

I have had excellent corrspondence with them, on a personal/ boat specific level.
Very satisfied with them so far and will be going ahead with my purchase of a Raya.

(No connection, just happy with communications).

Congratulations P.,I am pleased some one is getting some service ,perhaps you could take over my 'open file' and get replies from all the other companies who ignore me.

.... I once saw a yacht anchored in North Channel to the west of Hurst. .......

North Head buoy is used by the RORC as a race finish mark. I have often been anchored there as a committee boat even in SW winds. The holding is poor and I usually have 70 Meters of chain out but it’s a nice spot and good for a spot of fishing between the finishing. If the wind gets up to F6 we usually go and hide the other side of Hurst off Keyhaven’s entrance.:D
