This is my experience, particularly when the wind is up. Confidence is everything. Despite much encouragement, SWMBO has never quite gained confidence to use ample power, when needed, to keep the boat into wind. Similarly, a request from me at the bow to stop the boat frequently leads to reverse gear being gently applied rather than applying sufficient power to stop the boat. Repeated explanations and suggestions are no longer welcome. As a result, in all but the lightest conditions, I prepare the anchor then return to the helm, or do it as if single handed. My wife Jill does the majority of helming under sail but she is less confident helming under engine in anchorages and ports. Consequently it is her wish that I helm and she handles the anchoring. Just occasionally there may be a problem that requires more strength, in which case I may need to walk forward (not that I am Mr. Muscles!)
