Unfortunately I have dropped my anchor securing pin over the side. It is an L shaped pin about 5mm in diameter, the long arm being about 7-8 cm long and the short arm about 2cm, the long arm has a small flat plate about 1cm long hinged on a pin at the tip, which bends over to stop it coming out of the base.

I have looked on the net for anything resembling this bit of kit, but without success. If anybody knows where I might get a replacement, I would be most grateful if they would let me know.

Many Thanks

Rick

Search for drop-nose pins. If you get one with a ring instead of the L-shape you can add a lanyard to avoid losing this one :)

Not quite, mine has an L shaped rather than a rounded big end, but it might well do although 8mm may be a bit big, I'll measure the hole through the base tomorrow when I am down on the boat.

Many thanks for the speedy reply.

Thanks for all the help' I still have not found any L shaped drop nose pins, but that is really is not important. Obviously drop nose pins come in all sorts of size, so I am sure I'll be able to find one that is suitable, I'll measure things when I am down at the boat tomorrow.

Once again, many thanks.

I have used threaded stainless rod, that you can buy of a variety of diameters. Bend one end, fairly easy (big vice), to give you whatever 'L' you like and then use a lock nut at the other end. Hand tightening the lock nut, as tight as you can, I have found to be sufficient.

My L shaped pin locks in place simply by turning it. Might be of relevance If you have one made, or come across a similar part.

This would all be so much easier with a photo, but here goes: There is a small tab formed (by pinching when hot?) on one side of the pin, near the end off the long part. The hole in the anchor the pin passes through is wide enough for the pin tab to go straight through in any orientation, but the hole in the deck fitting is only big enough for the pin diameter, except in one direction, where a small extension to the hole has been filed to allow the tab to pass through. So if the short end of the pin is vertical the long end passes through. Once the tab is through, the short end is turned horizontal and the pin is locked in locked in place.
