Looking to head South. It would be advantageous to anchor somewhere in the vicinity of Brest while a depression passes to the North.
I'm not looking to clear in to France or go ashore for obvious reasons. Normally this would be fine but does anyone know for sure if this is currently doable? I'm not actually sure where to look as all the rules seem to be for normal land based travel.

My friend crossed the channel 4 days ago and anchored in the outer part of cherbourg harbour. He wants to head towards the med. He waited for customs or police thinking they would not be happy with him being there... they never came.
He chatted to the marina who said to come in. No paperwork , covid, passport or anything was asked for.
He told me everything is open and there is no drama whatsoever.

I don't know if you know the area, but just inside the Rade de Brest to the South, either side of the Ile Longue 48 18N 04 30W protects from SW or if you want total seclusion, go up the river Aulne a bit, round past the Abbey and the redundant warships to about 48 16.7N 04 17.0W

Yes, a very snug corner. My CQR liked the thick mud so much it didn't want to leave

Good to hear, so it would appear there will be a common sense approach towards boats in transit, seeking a weather refuge.

Just hope it is not blatantly abused.

Two neat refuges. The temptation to enter the Rade and go towards Brest will in future be avoided in favour of your suggestions. :)

Merci beaucoup !
