Anchor = Mooring ??

Re: Wot\'s an anchor anyway??

"better still, what for the purposes of colregs is a vessel - size wise?"

A Jet Skier has just been fined in court. The court decided that it was a vessel under the appropriate Act. This is now Case Law.

So a vessel is a Jet Ski or anything larger /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Shore is solid or near solids

Under - east, west, north, south etc. etc. Remember we live in a 3D world.

Moored in my book would mean if its a proper laid mooring - made fast to shore ..... technical point as it is close to anchored.

Anchor lights and all other thoughts are basically irelevant in a stated mooring area and no-one is considered at anchor.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, all the maps I have show the shoreline as a little blue edge, defined as MHWS. Where you put a mooring is on the sea-bed.

I think there is a difference between legality - ie. what you HAVE to do, and sense - ie. what you might CHOOSE to do. Along the coast from here at Trebeurden there are waiting moorings laid where SHOM charts show an anchor (sic) and I would always put up a light against the possy of somebody coming in with the sky o/cast and thinking 'anchorage - no lights = no boats', despite the fact that would be crass. And you, Nigel, what would you do there?

Re: Shore is solid or near solids

If you don't think you can see a boat on a mooring, what chance do you have of seeing the unlit mooring buoy? Once you have collected the pick-up rope around your prop I guess you consider yourself technically at anchor /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
