hlb asked recently about a strong chain sling to take the weight of the chain off the windlass.

Parsons chain make a wide range of tough chain grabbers which lock onto the chain securely. They also make swivel links with high specs.

Jimmy Green has the open-ended type - which can in theory release of its own volition - and they now produce a chain gripper which has a captive pin.

Then the Swedish company Gunnebo make some certified kit which looks like the dog's knees, er, bees bits...

I'd say that I have no connection with the above firms - but you know what I mean....

No I did'nt, I was answering some one else. Anyway those in the picture are crap, if I wanted to wrap chain round the deck, I might as well just wrap the anchor chain round a cleat. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Aw thank you, though I was not actually looking for myself; unfortunately they're not quite what I am looking for, I was thinking of something more similar to .....

might be a more pleasant response.

oh, sorry, I didn't see it, just shocked by how abrupt you answered him after he had gone out of his way trying to help you.

Written word I guess, sounds better when you read it. If I was saraband I would have personally read it as you were mocking my choice of solution, he may not take it that way. As I said, I was shocked by what I perceived from your reply, so much so I had to respond.

I'll wind me neck in.

I'm easy as I know that hlb has masses of experience and shares with the best intentions.

However..
"
I've been looking for one for years, apparently they are made. Everything I've seen that will go through chain, looks far to flimsy. In desperation, I just wrap chain round a cleat."

I'm not going to sulk or take up window box gardening.
