I've recently been stood up by one mail order chandlery and had to get my credit card to issue me a refund for the 'botched' order. Anyone know a reputable source for 30m of calibrated 8mm anchor chain?

Totally agree. I bought 65mm of 8mm calibrated chain from Griff Chain for the sole reason that it's made in England by a long established chain maker. I don't know how the cost compared with imported stuff; I never checked, because I wouldn't consider imported chain from an unknown source. Also they fitted enlarged links at each end for me. Delivery from Dudley was £50 plus vat, so if you are going near there in the car you could save yourself some expense

Website says prices include next day delivery.

Quote from E-mail received from Griff in May last year:

"Our website has not been updated for some considerable time, therefore these prices are now out of date, there have been several increases due to...blah, blah, blah"

I have just been on the phone to them this morning, terrified that I might have been ripped off! The website is still out of date and "free next day delivery" is no longer available, as it wasn't when I ordered last year.

The current price for 65 metres of 5/16" galvanised calibrated chain is £3.75/metre. Enlarged links at each end cost £10. Carriage to Surrey is now £32 instead of £50 last year due to change of carrier. These prices do not include vat.

Delivery is 10 - 14 days.

I hope their chain is more reliable than their website!

No - BoatGearDirect are not the offenders! I'm not sure of the protocol or etiquete regarding naming and shaming on the forum. I'll send a pm to anyone who wants to know.

Go to the chandlers at the road entrance to Gillingham marina - etxremely helpful about calibrated chain. Take the make of your gypsy with you, as that will tell them which end of the calibration limits you need.
