Anchor bow shield missing part

Hello,

I'm hoping someone might be able to tell me what missing piece I'm looking for (I've never seen it attached).

Here's a picture.

It looks like there is a piece missing that used lie between the bow shield and the hull. I'm hoping someone might be able to tell me what used to go there, as all other boats I've seen seem to have this piece flush to the hull.

Also any advice on how best to go about replacing it would be great. If it helps, my boat is a Cobra 850.

What is the other side like? Difficult to tell from the photo but that looks like a cast stemhead fitting. As you may know many of these were home completed and that does not look like the ones that are fitted to other Cobra 850s.

From that photo it looks like there has been substantial trauma to the bow roller, deck and bow. The deck is lifting under the roller. There has been some filling squidged around. I think you need to have a close inspection of the whole area. Your Forestay is attached to the same fitting so you risk losing the mast.

My thoughts too. I'm just wondering which was the greater trauma - the original damage or the "repair"

If it's really as bad as it looks, I'd be thinking very seriously about taking it all apart and starting again. In fact, looking at the strap and the two bolts that are supposed to be holding it firm, I'd not want to put any significant strain on the forestay before it's done.

I don't think that looks like a missing part just a terrible bodge up repair attempt. It needs stripping down, assessing and fixing properly

Top me it looks like a piece of wood, which filled the gap in the red box, has fallen out, and the top bolt is rusted to almost nothing. I would agree, a full removal and red-bed with added woodent spacer is required.

I wonder if the original owner has tried to move the bow roller forward an inch or two to prevent the anchor nibbling at the stem. Whatever, it needs looking at.

Thank you all for your responses, I have also spoken to a couple of people at the marina and the concensus seems to be to take the whole piece off to see what's actually going on underneath.

I have found some examples online of cobra 850s (Cobra 850 Bilge Keels For Sale, 8.69m, 1981) with this protruding stemhead fitting, with what looks like some sort of block/spacer behind the tang (what someone was calling the bit sticking down that attaches to the front face of the bow). Seems like I would just need to make another out of some hardwood I imagine. But as discussed I have bigger problems!

I am glad you are taking the whole lot off and examining; it really does look like a horrible bodge upon a very vital point.
