Anchor Balls up

Having got a black ball to make anchoring legal, where do I put it? The MF705 has no mast or pole to hoist anything, so I should appreciate hearing what you other smaller MF/Antares do. I had a look around the marina today, and there seems to be many of us in the same situation - nowhere to put our balls! I am planning on trying to make some sort of rig, but would like to learn from you experienced folks to avoid making the same errors.
 
mine just gets tied on the rails above the bow roller - this is where anyone vaguely interested in whether I am at anchor is likely to look first (to see it the anchors' there or they can see a rode.......); but then I have a walkround deck etc

It's actually supposed to be placed above the anchor chain.
Can't remember if it's also a colregs requirement, probably less strict i.e. "in a visible place" or summink, but surely that's the most proper location.

COLREGS specify 'where it can best be seen' 'in the fore part'. No mention of the chain.
 
It's after they have been run down by you know who's, and the insurance man gets involved that the "BALL" becomes a must have!! better to be covered than not. No excuses then like sorry mate I did not see you, or where was your anchor ball?

Actually, in the forward section of the boat, but with nowhere to mount it, the rod holder is better than not having it at all.

Haydn has a point anyway, it's rather the exception than the norm.
Though I'm not sure it's just a MoBoers thing. Pretty rare also among raggies, around here.

What is an anchor ball

does it stop the anchor rolling over? Is it the thing that lays in the locker on a raggie boat next to the motoring cone?

Since you appreciated, here's another similar clip from this summer.

With apologies for the drift of course, but hopefully the OP already got the answer he was looking for.
 
Only ever used mine once (just to try it!) dangled it from the highest point on the radar mast. But as has been said, its rare you see them on MoBos.
