Thank you for your advice. I have managed to set up a rig with a bungee cord (hooks through the 2 holes at the top of a section), and thread that through the loop of my extending boat hook.
The boat hook will actually fit down into the anchor locker and be held in place by the hatch, so it looks like I can dispay it forrard.
