I believe that there is another barge embeded in a mud berth at battlesbridge on the Crouch. Baliffs came to have it moved. The locals assisted the owner in preventing them access. I am told by his partner that she can tell the time of HW by the height of water in the bilges. She says that it would be absolutely marvelous to live on dry land, but he simply refuses
A lovely couple for all that.

The fact that he has only raised £836 of the £50,000 sought, suggests he hasn't outlined his argument very well.
... or that a large number of people are unaware of or indifferent to the argument. I read his explanation and it seemed pretty clear to me. Whether his argument has legal validity is a different matter which is not helped by the issue of fighting rich lawyers on ones own.

Did you read it?
I couldn't. Why does a person who really wants others to understand their words, use pale thin typeface on white background?

Same goes for hundreds of advertisers. Even if I believe I seriously want what is being advertised, I refuse to struggle to understand what's said because it hasn't been provided in black and white.

Sounds a very 'American', I am throwing my teddies out of my pram and want you to pay for it, way to react.

The picture of his barge looks a real eyesore, I wonder why he is mooring it perpendicular to the bank?

I copied it to a Word document so I could annotate it.

If you want I could PM you a copy. Then you could tweak the font to make it easier to read.

But frankly you're not missing much if you don't read it.

Just another case of someone who "fought the law and the law won."

I had a look at the comments, as well.

I was surprised to see that every comment was supportive.

Until I got to the end and read:

I think the “hippy chancer” sounds like a man who’s struggling. I think he chose ‘take on’ what he perceived as injustice. With better advice or means that could have been avoided. Raising a child on your own and having a sibling die by suicide is worthy of compassion in my book.
Rent seeking, nimby “business owners” whose profit motivated activities deny communities homes can get in the sea they so covert.

Cornish boat owner who battled authorities for years fined

The judge's comments are damning.

What baffles me is how someone who had been a bank manger, trained to assess risk and probability, could have deluded himself into thinking he could park this rusting eyesore in such an area without opposition.

He has nobody to blame but himself for the mess he has got himself into.
A bit harsh perhaps - he sounds like he has some personal problems - not taking the suicide of his brother well for starters.

In which case, the last thing he needs is financial ruin.

So why on earth were people, and newspapers, encouraging him to carry on with this folly?

Look at the comments on his crowd funding site. Only those who donated are allowed to comment, and they are all egging him on!

I agree with you entirely on that - a bit of counselling a while back would have achieved a whole lot more.

I wonder if I might find your name among the fatheads who chipped in a few quid to encourage the poor devil to carry on digging himself into an ever deeper mess.

If you did, you did him no favours.
Seriously?! No. I just felt sorry for him when I read about it a couple of months ago. I posted it here for context.

One man’s eyesore is another man’s life.

There has been few threads on here recently where contributors appear to have had a compassion bypass. It’s a shame.

Compassion, eh?

The words you used in your posts 15 and 32:

"...blatant nimbyism."

"Rent seeking, nimby “business owners” whose profit motivated activities deny communities homes can get in the sea they so covert." [sic]

have less to do with compassion, than to the chip on your shoulder. ;)
