I need to seal a variety of fittings, one cleat, one cable socket, one chartplotter to name a few. I have assumed / been told that Sikaflex 291 is suitable.

Reading the Sikaflex guide (http://www.bluemoment.com/downloads/sikaflexmarinehandbook.pdf) it implies that the Sikaflex should be applied under the fitting? Is that correct or should it just be applied around the edge (like bathroom sealant)? I guess underneath makes sense if it sets hard but I don't know, it naturally makes sense to me to have the fitting secured right down onto the deck?

The instructions also say to tighten most of the way, wait 24 hours then tighten the bolts/screws completely. However they also imply that sealant should be put in the screw holes at the start of this 24 hour wait, but won't it have set then when I try to tighten the screw?!

An idiots step by step guide appreciated. It's not the sort of thing which goes well if it goes wrong... Thank you in advance.

Sikaflex doesn't dry solid - it "turns into a rubber" ... which can be compressed making a watertight seal...

291 is very sticky, and if/when you need to take the fitting off again it will take the gel coat with it. Other Sikaflex (and other brands) will do as good a job without this problem.

Acetone on a rag will help you remove any wet bits you've spread all over the deck, pushpit, handrails, cockpit, windows, sink, tap, guardrails, tiller, washboards etc etc etc etc

Doesn't it get every where???
