An Azimut owner at last :)

Re: An Azimut owner at last - and a pic of my new obsession :)

Stunning boat Phil. I bet you can't stop standing and staring at her :encouragement:

When do you plan to trip to Dorset?

Hoping to get her back to Poole next week sometime, the surveyor for the purchase also does tuition and skipper work so as we got on so well over the last few meetings I've got him to agree to give me a hand. Obviously I want to spend every waking moment on board, but life goes on, it'll be a different story once shes just 10mins away :)

Re: An Azimut owner at last - and a pic of my new obsession :)

Looks fantastic , congratulations , maybe see you around Solent / Poole next year .

Re: An Azimut owner at last - and a pic of my new obsession :)

Lovely boat, congratulations. It's not only Azimut electric windows that fail btw, my Princess ones corroded and stopped working years ago. It looks a nightmare job to replace them, so I just locked them shut and accepted I can't use them.

Re: An Azimut owner at last - and a pic of my new obsession :)

cheers chaps - nice to know I'm in good company and not alone in liking the Azimut styling... I've been warned that this might be like choosing a quirky Alfa Romeo, but surely not (at least unlike those Alfas there's not much to rust!) & I've always loved choosing the alternative. viva la difference (ok - that's a french phrase :) )

Re: An Azimut owner at last - and a pic of my new obsession :)

I'm not sure I'd call your choice "alternative" - as PYB said, the 55 is unquestionably the most popular boat ever, in her size segment.
I looked closely at her myself, not later than a couple of months ago, and even if eventually I decided that it wasn't my cup of tea, I perfectly understood why it has been a breakthrough model for AZ.
Excellent choice, congrats! :encouragement:

PS: have you got the f/b crane? Can't see it from your pic...

Yes 500 sold in 9 years production, split I would guess 50-50 between EU and USA.
I do not know which was the second place behind it for a 17 meter flybridge MY out of mind it was Fairline 58 Squadron (just over 200 units) Aicon 56 (over 100 units).
Ferretti 550 produced (04-08) for 4 years sold about 50 units.
And the Azimut 55 was not cheap from 870,000 EUROS in 2004, from 720, 000 EUROS when launched in 2000, and from 920,000 EUROS when it became an Evolution in 2005.

Re: An Azimut owner at last - and a pic of my new obsession :)

500 is an impressive number.
I too really like them - some compromises of course but for me the real plus is the central master with large hull pots and the option to put the dingy on the Fly.

The only real negative for me is the galley but I could forgive it easily enough.

lovely boat

Re: An Azimut owner at last - and a pic of my new obsession :)

Hi MapisM, no, not got the FB crane, I'd like to add it, but think that the flybridge needs to be beefed up if adding after manufacture - will be happy to discover if wrong though...
maybe not completely alternative - but I was meaning that Azimuts aren't the most the common choice here in the UK, nothing more.

Re: An Azimut owner at last - a cpl of pics of shed stay.

here are a couple of pics of Stella's stay in the shed at CQuay, not a refit, but a tidy up including s-structure cut and polish, new f-bridge windscreens, refurb of trim tabs, and the pretty time consuming full bottom strip and prep for coppercoating next week.... £ don't ask! :)

Looking great Phil. What happened with the side window?

Re: An Azimut owner at last - a cpl of pics of shed stay.

side window - getting a replacement made, trying to improve upon the Azimut offer of 12 weeks + delivery time, from Italy.

Hi phill,
Lovely looking boat, congratulations, will you be keeping her at cobbs? If you are which pontoon? Not that we could miss a boat of that size!if keeping at cobbs may be an excuse to have a drink to celebrate,
Nathan

Hi Nathan
yes we will, we're a Poole family and CQ should work really well for us, we will soon be out on the very far end of A, 'am keen to be part of the marina socially as well as financially! Are you a member of the CQ BHA? I thought this might be a way to get to know the neighbours maybe... and yes, an excuse for a drink should never be passed on.
best, Phil

Re: An Azimut owner at last - a cpl of pics of shed stay.

Would love to have a look around, we are at the end of c pontoon, and probably still in t he shade of your boat even from there
We are up in the Solent for the winter, but back to cobbs in April - ish so will have to catch up whe the sun shines-
The berth holders association is really good at Cobbs, there are some really nice people there who are very welcoming, I am sure they will love following you In your wake!
Again congratulations on a realy nice boat,
Nathan

Sorry, I only just noticed your reply.
Fwiw, just a few months ago an Italian broker who deals with AZ a lot assured me that it's feasible, with no need for additional reinforcements.
He's a guy with a decent reputation, but in principle I never fully trust brokers on any technical matters.
In your boots, I would email the builder customer service, asking if they can confirm that in written (or specify what should be done, if that's not the case).
Good luck with the project anyway, and don't forget that piccies of any kind of refit, upgrade, etc. are always welcome, here in the asylum! :encouragement:

I can second the above quote, we have been CQBHA members for 2 seasons and have done the Weymouth weekend cruise each year. Very well organised and welcoming to new members, Kevin especially who organises the cruises is on A pontoon too I think, his boat is called Reality so worth a chat if you see him.

We hope to do more cruises for the coming season if we upgrade as intended. We are on c pontoon at Cobbs, in YOLO, say hi if you are passing - I look forward to seeing your Azi around the marina, it looks lovely.

Cheers Dan, will look out for you and say Hi when I get the chance, feel free to do the same, we're in the shed for another couple of weeks and then back out in the marina. Phil

Thanks Mapism, am still undecided re crane/davit, will/would certainly check thoroughly before bolting one on :)
pics, you saw yesterdays few? I'll add a few more, but really it's mostly boring clean and polish... and I don't want to get to wrapped up in myself - just because I'm obsessed with my new boat, etc :)
