Just watched the live races on BT sport. I thought there were too many close ups which meant it was difficult to follow the tactics.

Our lot caught up from nearly last to second in the second race but I didn't really see how!!

I forgot to say we went out on the Gosport Ferry race watch cruise this afternoon. Watching the event live was awesome and there was an enormous spectator fleet cheering our Ben on!

I like yacht racing but as a spectator sport its hopeless IMO.

Absolutely agree, but I suspect the coverage wasn't aimed at us yotties, and "the masses" would get bored senseless by the sort of detailed technicalities we find fascinating. The close up (and often sweary) action shots are probably more engaging for the first-time watcher :)

TV broadcasts of sailing racing can be tricky. Today's audience has short attention spans and wants easy to follow events. I thought the America's Cup broadcasts from San Francisco did a pretty good job of balancing the needs of the first time viewer with the enthusiast. Of course, match racing is easier to broadcast than fleet races. For me, I'm content with just Virtual Eye broadcasts. Good example is the 52 Super Series. Very competitive fleet this year. I have heard that they will be doing live video for the last event this year.

I thought the BBC coverage (red button and Beeb2 highlights) was very good - similar style as the last race (superimposed track marks/distance lines etc), and the commentary was pretty good considering they were American's.. :D

Riveting watching... hope they do the same for Gothenburg
