Americas Cup - thrilling racing at last

"They" being the race committee, since the wind rose to above the limits introduced after the death of Andrew Simpson.
I think Woodlouse was suggesting that Oracle's victory in race 8 was, in part, due to the fact that it was (blowing) over 20knots.

Probably a very narrow window between the lighter stuff that seems to favour NZ and the cutoff point where there is no race.

About five to ten knots probably. That said, since racing is called off when the wind gets above 22 knots we don't really know how much better Oracle will get. Even with the wind on the edge like yesterdays first race TNZ wasn't that much slower and they weren't on top form. On what they raced of the second race things looked pretty even still.

Don't forget that TNZ was leading at e beginning of the beat on the abandoned race, so while it was more even you can't say that oracle had a definite advantage

Don't think anyone could complain that the racing today was boring.....or could they?
Pretty good yesterday - in each case the team that sailed better won.

I still prefer monos for match racing - in the cats one mistake seems to cost too much time, and the cost of tacking is so high it reduces the options

Looks like the Kiwis will have it wrapped up by Tuesday, so the Yanks will start their first lawsuit on Wednesday.

It could get better. They should use spinnakers as well...!!

They go so fast that the apparent wind is always too far forward, there's no "downwind", it's very well explained on the Americas cup Youtube videos. It certainly reduces the tactical options.

The interesting tactical effect is that going downwind the boat just in front doesn't suffer from the wind shadow of the boat following, provided it can make the turn fast enough and maintain speed. Does the boat behind on the "run" get dirty wind from the leader?

They are designed to carry a Code 0 - but I am not sure they would race in conditions light enough to need it

And if I remember rightly so did DOGzilla, however they furled the kite prior to every gybe, as it was in effect still a tack...
