January has slipped behind us and it's time to really start looking forward to a great sailing season.

Anybody got any ambitions for the year? Other than to enjoy life, both afloat and ashore, my main objective is to achieve Yachtmaster status before my 50th birthday arrives this November.

Pretty humble compared to many of the plans being muted on the forum, but it will be a milestone for me.

Simply to get my heart problems sorted (see my post on Rupert's Blood press thread), and get on with the rest of my life !

Does make you think a bit, though /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Will try and get my YM Offshore by June, Fastnet this year is another plan....also to start sorting my planned 2006 Round Britain and Ireland 2 handed mission. Have my crew and we now need to sort out a boat....and sponsorship!

fairly humble aspirations too...

Pass my Coastal skipper theory (first exam tonight /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif)
Sail across the channel or north sea for the first time
VHF course
and....
buy a boat /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good luck with the YM

If my wife can get the time, would like to sail down to Spain this year, otherwise South Brittany.

Next year I would love to get the boat to Norway and base it there for the summer.

Mine are even more humble than yours.

Go a little further afield than just the Solent - p'raps Poole, given a reasonable weekend. This probably sounds weedy in the extreme, but a 22 ft boat + small children + nervous SWMBO means that we progress little by little.

Hope for better weather, hence more use of boat, than last year

Try to avoid being run down by deranged Beneteau owners in the Beaulieu River

As a longer term strategy, I'm going to try and wean the family off the Sea Ray and on to something with sails. We are stinkies at the moment, because I felt that it would be an easier introduction to boats for the family than if we went sailing (which was really my first love). I think I can probably now start some re-education, though it will take more than just a year. Somehow I need to persuade SWMBO to suspend her belief that when a sailing boat heels, it's going to capsize! I guess a week somewhere like the Ionian might help with that.....

Most immediate objective is to find a dry weekend so that I can do the anti-fouling!

Been there, got the tee shirt. Small boat, small kids, plucking up courage to venture out of the Solent etc. I can still remember the look of satisfaction of swmbo's face, once we were safely tied up in Cowes, after our first family passage.

If you fancy coming out to play with the raggies sometime, pm me.

Give up the dreaded weed.
Sail every available weekend.
Get work life better organised.
Do no work on the boat on Summer holiday.
Spend more time with wife and son.

All very modest, I know, but very important to me.

Move to Brittany to avoid 315 mile commute anytime I want to sail. Also with more time to sail - upgrade boat..(dreams....)

I think I'll save this thread, and then revive it in December - so we can all own up to what we've actually achieved /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
