In the process of purchasing my new boat I watched her being started up three times in total and had a sea trial. On every start up there was a fair amount of fumes but not too unusual and the engine surveyor was not worried about it. These had reduced after the sea trai and she was warmed up.

So the day I owned the boat - just over a week ago, I put in my first double dose of Soltron to both tanks. She was not going anywhere, so there was no mixing but at least I had my first dose put in.

A week later just before I was to take her around to the lift - in fact about an hour before I stumbled across a chap who knew all about the history of the boat and remembered her first sea trials when new etc - he was a mine of helpful information. He had one bit of bad news though ... it was rumoured my boat had the diesel bug!!!!!

I then started the engines, which had not been started for over a week and there was so little exhaust that I wondered if they were really going at all! I revved her up and still no smoke - no fumes of any consequence whatsover. I started up the 20Kv generator and still no difference. It was the most wonderful sight.

I then had instant interest in how I had managed to do this from the very person who had just told me about the problem. In fact he wants the stuff as soon as possible.

The only difference between all the other start ups and this one was a week for the Soltron to work.

So with stern thrusters and Soltron, not to mention Corrosion X .... I really am way along some road that many would consider the wrong one but I am enjoying it :)

soltron - sounds good

Gludy, that sounds encouraging. Was there any significant ambient air temperature or weather difference between the smokey and smoke-free days?

My brother's new boat smokes badly on start up. Having read your post I will have to try Soltron to see if it helps. I will report back, in a few weeks

No there was no difference in the weather - in fact every day we have ever spent at Port Solent in the purchasing the two boats has been good weather - even in October!

Remember the Soltron was in there for a week and so had time to work but the difference in start up was nothing short of amazing.

You've persuaded me Gludy. I'll try it for its smoke-free start up benefits! Anything would be better than the current gas mask arrangments.
