Am I so out of touch???

Oh it’s coming, a good friend of mine who is in corporate finance in the states has taken ALL of his clients money out of the stock market. Not if, but when and it’s a lot closer than many think.
thats interesting but the question , where did he move the money too

My local garage charges £28/hour and the boiler company charge £35/hour. The joys of rural living.

Those are pretty reasonable tbf the price quoted to the op makes me think he needs to look elsewhere. As another posted said a vendor with that kind of attitude doesn't deserve your cash.

Well, that’s the problem, where is safe anymore? From what he said, it has been moved into assets that can be liquidated if needed such as Gold. What is really interesting is he told me that his really big high net worth clients wealth has increased enormously since 2010 after the last crash and again this year.

I wonder who will have to pay for the pandemic?

A story I heard from the navy.
Big ship engine failure.
Many engineers looked at it but could not fix.
Someone suggested getting the engineer who built engine in the first place, now retired.
He walked up to the engine and hit it with a big hammer. Engine started and ran perfectly.
The navy upon receiving the bill, queried the £10 000 and asked for a complete breakdown.
Hitting engine with hammer, £2
Knowing where to hit, £9 998

I have a high pressure steam turbine blade that came from a ship, it was slightly out of spec, enough that they called on my uncle to come and look at it as he was one of the ones that was on the design team. They flew him from Scotland to the town in England, out on a test run with the ship, listened to his recommendations and then had to strip the turbine to get the blade out, such a small thing it is too and it stopped a multi million pound ship being accepted.
